| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The activity that the research assistant will take on can be summarized as follows: 1) Literature review on FRCM composites applied to quasi-brittle substrates 2) Design of the single-lap shear test setup 3) Experimental campaign to determine the effect of the width and length of the bonded area 4) Measurement of the strain profiles along the composite to determine the interfacial law 5) Final report that summarizes the results obtained |
| Descrizione sintetica in inglese | Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites can be employed as a valid alternative to Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) composites for strengthening existing reinforced concrete (RC) and masonty structures. The weakness of FRCM-substrate joints has been reported to be either at the matrix-fiber interface or within the concrete substrate (as is usually reported in case of FRP-concrete joints). The study of the stress-transfer mechanism between the composite and the substrate is of fundamental importance to determine the load-carrying capacity of FRCM-substrate joints. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Bologna has started a new research project in this area. Prof. Christian Carloni is the PI and is seeking a research assistant who will be able to conduct the experimental work and analyze the results. |
