| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The Oman and United Arabian Emirats (UAE) fold and thrust belt is an important sector for the exploration strategy of TOTAL. Despite a belt of discoveries done in the UAE segment of the orogenic chain; the external (i.e. western) sector of Omanis still poorly known. A comprehensive understanding of the tectonic style of the area, with a structurally consistent geological model based on field work, well data and seismic interpretation, could potentially help de-risking the prospectivity, driving the exploration strategy in the area. The research involves the effective integration of geological (i.e. stratigraphic, sedimentological, and facies studies) structural analysis and modelling, at various scales, in order to provide a consistent framework of the tectonic evolution of the Oman orogenic system, with particular emphasis on the structural evolution of the belt, its geometry and the timing of deformation. |
