Descrizione sintetica in italiano The project studies the probing of a box containing an unknown quantum channel labelled by a classical bit whose value must be determined. In order to improve the readout of this bit, one needs to optimize both input state and output detection. In this scenario, the goal is to establish the ultimate performance in the discrimination of quantum channels also using adaptive strategies. Particular consideration should be devoted to Gaussian channels, for which this problem needs to be constrained by fixing the mean number of photons at their input.
Besides adaptive protocols and optimal solutions, practical strategies, where one minimizes the quantum resources that are needed for beating the classical performance, should be also investigated.
