| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | This project investigates the relationship between class appeal and class voting in Europe and its evolution over time. Its main goal is to understand whether the economically unprivileged (once the core social constituency of class mobilization) today: (a) still behave as a relatively homogeneous social group, still mobilized by traditional left parties; or whether (b) this group of ‘losers’ (Kriesi et al. 2006), albeit without a shared class identity, is still mobilized, but by new parties, perhaps competing on a populist agenda. This question is broadly framed in the context of contemporary large-scale transformations such as economic globalization, de-industrialization, European integration and organizational changes in political parties |
