Descrizione sintetica in italiano Cities are progressively becoming crucial for analyzing, understanding and addressing political processes engendered by the last wave of globalization (Brenner 2004). On the one hand, cities begun to play an international role and to attract capital and human resources to increase the welfare of their citizens. On the other hand, cities are the spatial dimension where the nexus between global and local dynamics has been most evident: conflicts, knowledge production, capital flows, migrations, pollution, natural disasters, decision making, pandemics, all find their most intense manifestations within urban areas (Appadurai, 2002; Held, 2010; Abu-Lughod, 1987; Arrighi et al., 1999; Harvey, 1995; Sassen, 2001). Under these conditions it becomes essential for cities to be able to navigate the challenges given by globalization, enjoying the opportunities and avoiding the risks.
