Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The activities of the post-doc researcher will encompass the study of chemical and physical methods to realize the polymeric composite based on particle reinforcement; the development of new optimized formulations for the obtainment of products with specific chemical, physical, thermal, mechanical and rheological characteristics suitable for application in AM; the use of characterization techniques for assessing thermal and mechanical performances of the new composites, such as: differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry, to evaluate typical thermal transitions such as Tg and Tm of dditives, as well as thermal stability of the products, either in an inert atmosphere or in air; mechanical and dynamic mechanical test to define the performance of the modified composites, also in comparison with traditional materials; SEM microscopy, for a detailed study of the morphological characteristics of the composite samples to also determine the morphology of fracture surface. |
Descrizione sintetica in inglese | Additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising techniques, producing complex shapes and reducing production costs, avoiding production wastes. This research project aims at developing new composite materials, based on a thermoplastic matrix reinforced with wastes from agricultural production, processable via AM. In particular, the aim is to develop a higher competency about the whole AM processing technique: starting from the most convenient design, going through material formulation, down to the production step the overall processing will be optimized to work with more sustainable materials. Different thermoplastic matrices will be considered, including recycled polymers and polymers from renewable resources, and they will be modified with agricultural waste cellulosic fillers. Such renewable fillers will impact material’s mechanical properties and will valorize waste materials that, at the moment, are characterized by a poor added value, improving also the circularity of the value chain. |
