Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The following research activities will be carried out: -Preparation, by electrodeposition, of thin LDH films that will be deposited on carbonaceous or transparent supports. In particular, LDH based on Cu, Fe, Zn and Ni will be studied, varying the ratios between the metals and the thickness of the deposited films. LDH with different interlayer distance will also be prepared. - Characterization of the materials developed by XRD, SEM-EDS, RAMAN and by electrochemical techniques -Electrocatalytic tests to evaluate the performance of the electrodes in the CO2 reduction process in terms of selectivity, productivity and faradic efficiency. The reactions will be carried out at different applied potentials and for different times and the concentrations of the obtained products will be determined -Evaluation of the possibility of scale-up. - Development of materials and tests in photoelectrochemical systems. |
Descrizione sintetica in inglese | The research project is aimed at studying the recovery and utilization processes of CO2 and its electrochemical transformation into fuels and chemicals. The research will focus on the development of catalytic films on conductive substrates to be used for the development of electrocatalysts usable in electrochemical and photoelectrochemical processes of industrial interest. In particular, catalysts consisting of layered double hydroxides (LDH) containing copper, iron and nickel will be studied, and will be electrochemically deposited on carbonaceous supports or on transparent electrode substrates, in view of a possible application for photocatalytic processes. The Electrocatalytic performance will be evaluated in a typical laboratory scale H cell, using KHCO3 as electrolyte, studying in particular the performance of the materials in terms of selectivity, productivity and faradic efficiency for the production of acetic acid or other products (e.g. formic acid, ethanol). |
