Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The activity will be carried out at the Department of Agrifood Science and Technology and at the University of Bologna's experimental farm. The trials will focus on two case studies, cherry and apple, and will test the use of different multifunctional nets to prevent abiotic stress damage such as cracking, sunburn and water stress. The following parameters will be monitored in the mentioned case studies: -foliar gas exchange (on a daily scale). -plant water status and tree-fruit water relations (on a daily scale) -fruit growth dynamics -Insurgence of major damage from abiotic stresses (scald, reduced fruit growth, cracking) -Yield and quality of production at harvest; Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) |
Descrizione sintetica in inglese | Due to climate change the increased frequency of extreme weather events such as heat waves and drought stress, represents an important threat for fruit production, since they often cause damages such as loss of production and fruit quality as well as sunburn. The advancement of technology has made significant achievements in the last years and it surely represents a great potential towards a major resource use efficiency and sustainability in the orchard management as well as a risk decrease in the incidence of abiotic stressors. This project aims at understanding the physiological responses to the main abiotic stressors such as heat waves and drought in major fruit crops such as cherry and apple and to develop new adaptation strategies to face them. This strategies might include the development of decision support systems to optimize irrigation, prevent sunburn and optimize fruit quality and yield in different environments. |
