Descrizione sintetica in italiano | This research aims to address the inadequate public transportation service in peripheral and less desirable areas by developing models for designing, evaluating, and operating Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) solutions such as taxi, dial-a-ride, and on-demand buses. The researcher will design different DRT solutions and conduct simulations to examine the effects of their implementation in an existing transportation system. The researcher will use a simulation-based approach to evaluate the new transportation system based on various criteria, with the goal of promoting a shift towards shared transportation modes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and road congestion. A crucial component of this research will involve evaluating the relative competitiveness of on-demand solutions in comparison to traditional public transportation, in order to minimize any potential shift away from public transport towards on-demand options. |
