| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The research plan focuses on the attitude towards entertainment and on the politics of both highest levels of government (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Secretariat of the Duce) and of the local authorities and peripheral administrations. The first phase of the work envisages a broad preliminary bibliographic survey on the positioning of the entertainment professionals during fascism. Subsequently, the research will focus on national and foreign propaganda strategies through the investigation of two case studies. All these case studies draw on unpublished archival sources already identified in Rome, Bologna and Livorno. The goal is to publish at least one article in an A-level journal, preferably an international one. |
| Descrizione sintetica in inglese | The project focuses on the fortune of the so-called 'light genres' in fascist Italy and their use as tools of influence both domestic and internationally. In particular, the project he will study the use of revue and operetta as tools of propaganda and cultural diplomacy, through the analysis of two particularly significant case studies and hitherto neglected by the studies: (i) the production of the operetta Baraonda at the Teatro Solvay in Rosignano by the Opera National Balilla (1936); (ii) the tours in the African colonies of Totò and the Compagnia Maresca (1939). Both case studies can count on extensive unpublished documentation, preserved in local and business archives, as well as in the Historical Diplomatic Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |
