| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | While reading a text, the eyes move from left to right in order to fixate content words and comprehend the sentence. The more general and theoretical aim is to contribute substantially to the highly debated question regarding serial vs. parallel processing of multiple words disentangling the role of perceptual, attentional and linguistic components. The project has multiple objectives that will be achieved by 1) integrating three different methodological approaches: behavioral (accuracy and response times in reading); recording eye-movement; TMS paradigms, and 2) studying three different populations: children, young and older adults with normal reading skills. We intend to investigate the level of processing that can be achieved in parafoveal visual field locations, the timing of such processing, the contribution of other low- and high-level cognitive mechanisms that impact on the processing, its evolution through life, and the causal role of specific brain areas/networks. |
