Descrizione sintetica in italiano | The first part of the research requires the study of the relevant theoretical and empirical literature in the fields of global warming, civil conflicts and disease environment. Second, the empirical analysis require a preliminary process of data collection and creation of a consistent dataset. It is in fact of crucial importance to collect the most appropriate available data with respect to our strategy and to choose the best estimation framework, in order to deeply understand the relationship between our main interest variables. The candidate is expected to have some background knowledge of the relevant literature and to develop the research by actively cooperating with the tutor and the other members of the Department who are working on these topics. Previous experience in data collection, a robust econometric background and knowledge of the relevant existing databases are a strong preferential requirement. |
Descrizione sintetica in inglese | The goal is to study the role of global warming and the exposure to heat sensitive vector borne diseases interact and affects the probability of social conflicts. This channel for the determinants of civil conflicts is not explored as is not the relationship between two of the main consequences of climate change (higher frequency of climatological shocks and higher exposure to human pathogens). Plan to use of newly available data on the spatial distribution of all infectious disease pathogens for humans that have ever been detected, or that are endemic, in a country. The raw data have been collected for medical purposes and for the monitoring of the spread of diseases and are made available in the database supplied by the Global Infectious Disease and Epidemiology Network, GIDEON. This information can be used to create indices of exposure to pathogens for each country that are, by construction, exogenous to civil conflict incidence, economic development, or other typical confounds. |
