| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | L’assegno di ricerca relativo al progetto “‘The thought may be obscure, but the word is lucid, or rather translucent’. Parola poetica e parola tradotta. Percorsi danteschi nella letteratura inglese, moderna e contemporanea” sviluppa con metodologia linguistico-culturale i risultati di un’indagine già avviata dal gruppo di ricerca. Finora, la ricerca ha individuato, fra le macroaree di interesse, la presenza dantesca nell’età moderna attraverso l’analisi delle traduzioni in lingua inglese della Commedia (F.H. Cary: 1814; H. W. Longfellow: 1895; D. L. Sayers: 1949; A. Mandelbaum: 1980). Di qui la necessità di digitalizzare e allineare traduzioni prescelte e testo fonte, avvalendosi delle nuove tecnologie dell’informazione e di memorie traduttive di testi inglesi, letterari e non, collocati storicamente nello stesso periodo delle traduzioni stesse, per studiare variazioni diacroniche della lingua e dei linguaggi presenti nell’opera dantesca. |
| Descrizione sintetica in inglese | The research project “‘The thought may be obscure, but the word is lucid, or rather translucent’. Poetic Word/Translated Word. Dantesque Itineraries in Modern and Contemporary British Literature” requires the funding of a grant in order to bring to completion an ongoing investigation, by using the tools of linguistics and cultural studies. To date, Dante’s presence in modern culture and literature has been selected as special topic for enquiry, via the analysis of a number of English translations of the Commedia (F. H. Cary: 1814; H. W. Longfellow: 1895; D. L. Sayers: 1949; A. Mandelbaum: 1980). Hence the need to digitalise and align the selected translations with the Italian text facing, using the new information technologies and translation memories of English texts, both literary and non-literary, produced at the same historical time as the translations themselves, in order to study the diachronic variations of the language/s in Dante’s work. |
