The BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (University in Pisa – Italy) announces a call for 2 Early Stage Researcher fellowships within the European Marie Curie Action ITN (Initial Training Network) project “SMART-E – Sustainable Manufacturing through Advanced Robotics Training”. SMART-E is a Doctoral Training Network, funded by the EU Commission’s FP7 Marie Curie Programme , with the aim to prepare the next generation of leading experts in advanced robotics to secure a sustainable manufacturing sector in Europe. The network is bringing together leading experts in the field of embodied intelligence, compliant, soft robotics, advanced manufacturing, industrial robotics and automation, smart materials and machine learning in Europe. The Ph.D. in BioRobotics is a three-year residential program with highly interdisciplinary connotation. The two PhD positions will specifically focus on the following research topic: “Dexterous, Soft and Compliant Robotics in Manufacturing” . Research Fields Engineering - Biomedical engineering Engineering - Mechanical engineering Engineering - Electrical engineering Computer science Eligibility criteria Applicants may be of any nationality and must hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree or equivalent title, in subjects like mechanical, computer, biomedical, electrical, automation engineering and computer science, and they should not be older than 35 years on February 28th, 2014; applicants older than 35 may be exceptionally admitted by the Examination Committee on the basis of their Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum. In order to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the Marie Curie ITN at the date of recruitment, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account. Italian candidates can apply if they have resided in another country for more than 3 years of the last 4 years. At the time of recruitment by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, the applicant has not yet been awarded the doctorate degree and he/she is in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of his/her research career. Selection process The public selection will be based on the evaluation of the submitted documents and on the interview. The evaluation of the submitted documents and the interview will assign a maximum score of 50/50 each. The overall assessment will be on a scale of 1 to100. International mobility is required. The ESR Ph.D. student will receive an yearly gross salary (Living allowance) of € 40.508,00 (including income tax and retirement pension contributions.
