| Descrizione sintetica in italiano | • Conducting a comprehensive survey of design and planning quantitative methodologies for operations and logistics systems, mainly related to food and perishable products, as well as their packaging. • Developing and implementing quantitative methods to plan and control the material flows of products across a network of facilities or within a facility. • Quantifying environmental impacts and externalities related to industrial and logistics operations and proposing mitigation strategies. • Virtualizing and digitizing decision-support systems applied to manufacturing and logistics fields. • Constructing and maintaining industrially-derived data repositories, along with collecting field data. • Disseminating results by preparing scientific publications and participating in conferences and industrial visits. |
| Descrizione sintetica in inglese | The Research Assignment aims to develop, test, and engineer quantitative and optimization models and methods for the design, planning, and operational management of inter- and intra-plant operations and logistics in the following fields: food, packaging, manufacturing, and agriculture. This work will focus on applied research and technology transfer in industrial contexts. The goal of these models and methods is to implement and enhance decision support systems (DSS) that facilitate data-driven decision-making, reduce waste, minimize costs, and lower environmental impacts. This approach will improve system resilience while also reducing inefficiencies and externalities. Particular emphasis will be placed on managing material flows within complex industrial systems and networks encompassing multiple stages and various plants, as well as on circular systems and industrial symbiosis. |
