Descrizione sintetica in italiano	La complessità della Scizia erodotea ha imposto sin dalla IIa metà dell’800 un’attenta riflessione sull’onomastica, l’idronimia e la teonimia di tale regione grazie alla quale fu finalmente possibile chiarire il significato dell’etnonimo “sciti”, termine che nel quadro della “Questione Scitica” aveva assunto un valore più geopolitico che etnolinguistico. Solo a seguito degli studi pionieristici di Müllenhoff, Mišcenko, Latyshev e Miller si ottenne una vera sistematizzazione delle fonti, poi completata da Justi, Abaev e Zgusta. Dopo 70 anni da questi ultimi studi, risulta necessaria una revisione del quadro documentale, nel frattempo arricchitosi di nuovi rinvenimenti epigrafici.
Descrizione sintetica in inglese	The ethnic complexity of Herodotean Scythia encouraged since the 2nd half of the 19th century careful reflection on the onomastics, hydronyms and theonymy of that area through which the meaning of the term Scythian was clarified. In reality, within the framework of the “Scythian question”, it assumed a more political and geographical value than an ethnic one. After the pioneering investigations by Müllenhoff, Mišcenko, Latyshev and Miller, a systematization of the sources was carried out by Justi, Abaev and Zgusta. Seventy years after the last works, and in light of new epigraphic findings, it is necessary to carry out further research in order to define the whole frame, distinguishing the Scythian material from the Sarmatian one.
