Titolo del progetto di ricerca in inglese	Research on orbital pathology in post-traumatic and congenital malformation as well as on the orbital involvement in the grave’s disease.
Descrizione sintetica in italiano	L’orbita si trova al confine tra il neuro e lo splancocranio. Per tale motivo è spesso coinvolta in corso di patologie interessanti i due distretti anatomici. E’ una struttura molto complessa dove, in uno spazio minimo, coesistono strutture altamente differenziate con funzioni diverse ma integrate. L’orbita può essere coinvolta nel corso di malformazioni, traumi,tumori, patologie infiammatorie e patologie sistemiche. La ricerca va orientata verso le alterazioni strutturali dell’orbita che si possono evidenziare nel corso di patologie malformative congenite od acquisite oppure a seguito di malattie sistemiche come nel caso delle patologie tiroidee su base autoimmune. Lo studio dovrò essere orientato al miglioramento del trattamento di tali alterazioni alla luce delle moderne acquisizioni circa l’etiologia, i meccanismi patogenetici, le attuali tecniche diagnostiche e terapeutiche con particolare interesse verso l’uso della bioingeneria e dei biomateriali.
Descrizione sintetica in inglese	The orbit lies on the border between the neuro and the maxillofacial region. For this reason it is often involved in the course of the diseases interesting these different anatomical districts. It is a highly complex structure in which coexist in a minimum of space highly differentiated structures with different integrated functions. The orbit may be involved in the course of malformations, trauma, cancer, inflammatory and systemic diseases. The research will be directed to the structural alterations of the orbit that can be highlighted in the course of congenital or post-traumatic malformation and as a result of systemic diseases such as in the case of autoimmune based thyroid disease. The study should be aimed at improving the treatment of these disorders in the light of the modern acquisitions about etiology, pathogenetic mechanisms, current diagnostic and therapeutic techniques with particular interest in bioengineering and the use of biomaterials.
